Welcome to our haylo blog.

this is something Jess has wanted to do for a little while. to have a place where people can come to and keep up to date with new or insightful everything skin, beauty and wellness.

2020 has been a time of learning; learning how to live a new way, work a new way, deal with people in new ways, and all while living in an atmosphere of extreme uncertainty!

Adjusting to change can be both exciting and difficult. This is especially the case in our current situation as, in some cases, change has been forced upon us, leaving us with no choice about whether we want to take on these new challenges.

For this reason, I wanted to share with you what helped me get through this time, as I feel, from talking to a lot of you, you have had similar experiences to me.

During lockdown I connected, via social media, with an incredible lady called Lotty Roberts. After chatting about work related interests we got on to a subject I have always had an interest in, Mindfulness. Lotty then let me know that after lockdown she was going to run an 8 week Mindfulness course. At first I felt I could not commit as, once we were out of lockdown, we needed all hands on deck at Haylo and this would require my absolute attention and care. But oh my goodness, like others after Lockdown, I felt very tired, I had lost all sense of presence and I was pretty much burnt out. How was I going to be good to anyone like this?! After talking to my beautiful friend Kel about whether to do the course or not, she suggested that doing a Mindfulness course might be just what I needed. So, I decided to enrol myself (and Mat too, ha ha!) and Kel and her husband also joined us.

What an absolute gift it was to do this course! It was amazing for me personally, it was amazing for Mat and I as a couple, and it was such a nourishing course to experience with our gorgeous friends as well! It was special thing to do and share with them.

  • Each Monday night, the evening the course was run, I could not wait to be there. We learned so much and it was so beneficial in helping us cope with these uncertain times. Lotty was an excellent facilitator, helping us feel comfortable and providing a space for our group to feel safe, enabling them to get the best they could out of the course. Instead of rambling off the whole 8 weeks here, I will share with you what I got from it and please feel free to email or talk to me about it. I have also attached information on Lotty, the course and a link to a website where you can buy a fantastic movie called “My Year of Living Mindfully”.

The MBSR 8 week Mindfulness course has helped me:

    • Deal with the anxiety of the unknown

    • Be still and less reactive, helping me make better choices

    • Work on being present

    • Learn that it is important to look after your mind like you do your body (Shannon Harvey says Mindfulness is like your 5 plus a day for your mind, so true!)

    • Look at problems right in front of me and deal with them, rather than letting them build up in my head with fear

    • Look after myself better mentally and physically

    • Get clear on life choices and how I want to move forward

    • Learn how to have a better relationship with my phone!

It is not selfish to put yourself first. A mantra I love is: “If you are good, everyone around you is good.”

I encourage you all to have a read of the below and if it sounds like what you need, give it a go. It really has changed my life for the better!
